How Breaking Barriers Started

Hi I’m Christie!
Breaking Barriers exists to bring people together—to create inclusive, welcoming spaces where friendships can grow and community feels real.
After nearly 20 years in the disability and care industry, I saw what was missing: genuine connection. Especially for people with disabilities, neurodivergence, or anxiety, it can be hard to find social spaces where you truly belong.
And in today’s world—where so much happens online or behind a screen—connecting in person has only gotten harder.
I think back to growing up in the ’90s, when my friends and I would just hang out, do silly things, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. It felt easy. Natural. No pressure. That kind of connection shouldn’t be a thing of the past.
Breaking Barriers was created to bring that spirit back. We design events that combine fun activities with space to relax, be yourself, and make real connections—whether you’re neurodivergent, have a disability, live with social anxiety, or just want to be part of something meaningful.
Because everyone deserves to have people, to have fun, and to feel like they belong.

Bringing Community Together
We want to hire local creatives, not only to support talent in our community but also create dynamic, inclusive spaces where everyone can connect, learn, and have fun. Each event is a new opportunity to try something different, meet new people, and build lasting friendships.
